Hi there people,

My name's Phil and I am relatively new round here, but wanting to get stuck in. Today I was in the city and I was trying to find some wine corks to aid me in my mini painting process. But I found none. Surely there is a place that sells wine corks? I searched supermarkets, hardware stores, disposal stores, art shops...

If you could help me out, that would be grand. Either that or I'd better start drinking a lot.

try at a restaurant. they sometimes have corks left over at the end of a night from bottles. I got some when I worked as wait staff at a place. That or find a wino that will have heaps.

Try Ebay.
Or
Do an online search for cork products, there seems to be a few suppliers in the Brisbane area.

I got mine from Riot art & craft but I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives

If its larger pieces of cork your after as well, buy a cheap corkboard from a $2 shop or any of those 'discount' shops.

Whew, response explosion! I'm yet to try out Riot Art and a discount store. Ebay was $35 for 100, not including postage, so perhaps not unfortunately. I'll try again. Thanks!

I got mine here. (I'm in Sydney)

But I'm pretty sure that any home brewing supplier will have them. They're available in different grades (I got the densest ones because I prefer to use a pin to hold something in place rather than blu-tack) and varying prices.

I do not specifically use wine cork... but you can purchse Cork Blocks/Bricks which tradesmen/handymen use to wrap sand paper around...

Simply cut to required shape.

if you buy nice scotch eg. glenfiddich, glenlivet, monkey shoulder etc i find that the corks from those bottles make excellent painting stands as they are attached to a solid plastic base
