Welcome, everyone, to our new forum!

We have long believed that a greater sense of community and spirit needs to be forged here in Australia and New Zealand, amongst those of us who enjoy the more purely creative aspects of the hobby. There is a lack of support and encouragement here for painters/sculptors – especially the young ones – who have a serious interest in this creative side of miniatures, and who wish to increase their skills in this regard.

It is often noted that there is a lack of depth of painting/sculpting talent here in Australia and New Zealand. The way for us to achieve such depth is to forge a more solid, supportive community of dedicated painters/sculptors who can provide the advice and feedback, sharing of ideas, the inspiration, and most importantly the encouragement and enthusiasm necessary to simply keep painters and sculptors painting and sculpting!

The lack of concentrated focus on the creative side of miniatures here in Australia and New Zealand means it is easy for the younger promising hobbyists – as well as those who display a great deal of talent but are yet to ‘break through’ into the upper, sometimes too-exclusive circle of experienced painters – to drift away from their interest in painting and sculpting. Although many are very keen to learn and improve, there is little in the way of a network or support structure of more experienced or knowledgeable painters to help them do so. It can be very hard to maintain motivation to work at a higher level and strive for improvement and excellence, because there is often nobody, or few people, seeing one's work, and little in the way of help, encouragement, or stimulation; often it can feel like we are all on our own. The geography here means that painters and sculptors are very spread out, and chances for meeting together are few, resulting in this greater tendency for withdrawing into one’s own world, and the sort of culture of secrecy that has developed.

By forming an open, sharing creative community, hopefully we can address some of these issues: we hope to create a place in which everyone with a genuine interest in the creative aspects of the hobby, and the pursuit of excellence in those aspects, can meet together, share ideas, show projects, receive insights and feedback, and most importantly, work together to push each other toward greater heights of painting and sculpting. We hope that this forum can provide such a place, and that a strong online community will also lead to a greater real-life community, a stronger sense of camaraderie and enthusiasm for more contact with each other throughout the year.

Therefore, an important role of this forum is to promote the more social aspects of miniature painting, such as the formation and maintenance of painting and sculpting groups. We hope to provide forum space for anyone that already has their own club, and also to help more groups form among painters and sculptors in local areas. In addition, we hope to provide some level of support for clubs through a discount with our webhost, Mainly Medieval Books, to club members who wish to order supplies off their webstore.

Having said that, this forum is not meant to compete with the existing Australian/New Zealand miniature forums, as that sort of conflict is the last thing we would want. Rather, it is meant as a complement to existing forums, and we hope it can exist side-by-side with the other aspects of the hobby. We are all part of the same crazy miniature community, after all!

So, once again welcome, and I hope that you are as inspired and enthusiastic about the possibilities of this forum as we are! Let the painting and sculpting begin!

OzPainters Rules

• BE NICE TO EACH OTHER: We all learned this in kindergarten. It’s important to us here and the only way that this will work.
• DON’T PROVIDE FEEDBACK UNLESS INVITED: Some people just want to show off their latest work they are proud of. Most people know where they need to improve already and don’t need to be told again. If feedback is invited in the original post, keep your feedback polite and constructive.
• MORE IS BETTER: Post all the things about miniature and scale related hobby! We are made of many parts and we should share them and enjoy them as a group.
• THIS IS FOR YOU: This page is so you can ask questions, share ideas, learn things and see cool stuff!
