Description
Nothing done in armour is easy. It’s heavy, expensive, high maintenance and not particularly comfortable. You wear armour as a modern martial practitioner because you’re training for extremely demanding pursuits on horse or foot. For the dedicated armoured combatant, we want to offer the best performing and most historically authentic arming points that we possibly can, and let you get on with your training.
We make our arming points in-house from strong plied Swedish linen cord, waxed with beeswax and tipped with custom brass aiglets and secured with an iron rivet. The aiglet and rivet are worked smooth and flush to the cord so that they will not snag going in, or coming out, of your armour.
We take 3 strands of 5 ply heavy Swedish linen cord and cable ply them together with a hard twist. The cords are then soaked in hot beeswax until they are fully impregnated, to strengthen and lubricate the cord. Despite being made of 15 counter-twisted cords, the finished cords are only 2.5mm thick: dense, pliable, thin enough to fit a historically sized aiglets and easily able to pass through the tightest eyelets on your harness.
The aiglets, we custom-make to exactly fit the cordage diameter, and 35mm long. 35mm is on the longer side of general historical aiglets, but aids greatly in feeding through thick areas of armour. Once formed on the cord, the aiglet and cord are pierced through and an iron rivet fitted to secure the aiglet. Aiglets are best use to push a cord through, rather than to pull on, but our aiglets should endure more pulling strain than any other, giving you one less worry when a heavy-handed valet or assistant is strapping you in.
