This little badge is one of a number of known examples depicting demons. Exactly why they would have been popular subjects for badges is debatable, but they can perhaps be seen as apotropaic or evil averting – a tame demon to ward off or fascinate the unwanted attentions of harmful demons.
The original was found in Ypres and is in the collection of the Yper Museum.
