This is a type of suspension badge popular at Our Lady undercroft shrine – a secondary Marian shrine at Canterbury – and was designed to be used with a pewter ‘S’ link, as a suspender for the various pendants that were produced at the time.
This example has a circular beaded frame within which is a fleur-de-lys, a symbol associated with the Virgin Mary. The badge is supplied with a leaf pendant (as shown) but can be replaced with any appropriate pendant or even a a pearl or coloured stone in suitable mounting.
