Ring brooches were very common throughout the 13th & 14th centuries, having a practical function in securing garments, especially at the neck. They were made in precious metals for the wealthy & pewter or copper alloy for the lower classes.
This replica, based on a pewter original, is best used as a decorative brooch or for securing light-weight clothing. Please note that it is only supplied with a functional cross pin & not with a modern pin fastening. As such, it is only suitable for relatively open weave fabrics such as wool or coarse linen.
