From the ladies of the Medieval Still Room;
Such containers were common throughout the Medieval period and were made from decorated stoneware, wood, precious metals, and stone. Examples of decorative elements such as glazes, carving, paints, inlays of exotic timbers and stones, and enamel work have been recorded in paintings and in estate lists, and were commensurate with the status and wealth of the owner and the item being held.
