Description

From Catedral de Santiago de Compostela, this shell found on the beaches below the cathedral, became the universal symbol of pilgrimage. Originally pilgrims would pick up and use real scallop shells as indicators of their pilgrimage. This example features the figure of a pilgrim with staff and broad brimmed hat.
