Description
This little Piggy did not go to Market.
Copy of a badge found in Salisbury, which probably came from St Anthony’s Hospital in London. Probably 15thC
St Anthony is the Patron Saint of Swineherds, and customarily got one piglet from each litter, which were belled, and knows as Tantonys, and the name passed on to small bells.
30mm nose to tail,
2 grammes in weight
The fastening is based on the period style of a pewter pin back. It is more fragile than modern fastenings and should be opened with care and used on fabric which is not very tightly woven such as wool.
