Pilgrim badge: The Black Bull of Clare
Time period:15th Century
Product Dimensions: 4.7cm width x 2.8cm height
This was the Yorkist badge that was worn by the Duke of Clarence and his soldiers, as they set out with the King, to France in 1475.
Badge making did no only serve a religious market. It occupied a position in all aspects of life as for example, political and military to show allegiance, celebrate amorous intent, and indicate sporting interests, often with a satirical flavour.
