Description
Nigella seeds (Nigella sativa), are very, very black seeds with little fragrance. In cooking the flavour imparted can be described as a combination of onions, black pepper, and oregano with an almost metallic taste depending on what the seeds are blended and cooked with, and who is doing the tasting. The seeds are still widely used in cooking (particularly in the east) and used in period as another type of pepper in a variety of dishes as well as having valued medicinal properties.
