Copied from an armour chest, 14th Century in the Burrell Collection, Glasgow City Museums. Smaller chests would have a fixture in each end; larger chests would have 2 on each side and be carried like a litter.
Sold as a pair, each ring and staple has been hand forged. The ring is affixed by means of the staple, which is driven through the wall of the chest, and the protruding points clinched over.
