A Royal crown with fleur-de-lys, jewelled circlet and lining. King Edward the Confessor was canonised in 1161, his shrine in Westminster Abbey attracting both Royal and popular patronage throughout the medieval period. Many examples of this or very similar badges have been found throughout the country.
