Summary:
Many actors and re-enactors often resort to Oriental martial art techniques in constructing their combat scenes, unaware of the European tradition on which they could draw. Here is presented an example of that tradition in the use of a knife or dagger. Basing training and combat routines on this work will make combat displays more authentic, especially for the period 1400 – 1600. It also has to be said that, considerations of historical authenticity aside, these techniques have lost none of their effectiveness as combat training over the intervening centuries.
