“This booklet forms the first part of two booklets covering the work of apothecaries. Within this book it is possible to find all that is necessary to re-enact this medical practitioner. The period covered is 1560 – 1660, but there are references made to earlier and letter material. The second booklet will look at more complicated medicines and theoretical ideas, such as chemistry and proper distillation. In this work I have concentrated on the apothecaries [sic] social and working background, including some notes on equipment, ingredients, and simple processes.”
