A parody of the early medical profession. The hospitals were run by the monks so the early physician is shown as a monkey, wearing a monks cowl. He urinates into a pestle and mortar, part of his method of diagnosis. The fish may represent the church.

Badge making did not only serve a religious market. It occupied a position in all aspects of life as for example, political and military to show allegiance, celebrate amorous intent, and indicate sporting interests, often with a satirical flavour.
