This 1530’s Dutch badge shows the soldier in a sleeveless coat and hood, known as a liripipe. He is shown advancing with bow drawn. With two lapel pin fixings on the rear.
Potted history;
Badge making did not only serve a religious market. It occupied a position in all aspects of life as for example, political and military to show allegiance, celebrate amorous intent, and indicate sporting interests, often with a satirical flavour.
